The Iłowa commune is located in the western part of Żagań district, in the southern part of the Lubusz Voivodeship. Geographically the commune belongs to the Silesian Lowlands, located among the Lower Silesian Forests, on the tributaries of Bóbr River: Czerna Mała and Czerna Wielka. Nearly 70% of the municipality is covered by forests. Very good communication accessibility is provided by the A18 highway running through the municipality and the railroad route Zielona Góra – Żary – Węgliniec – Lubań.
While entering the park complex, it is impossible to miss the beautiful timber framed gate. In the park, through which flows the Czerna Mała River, the attention is immediately drawn to the two-winged palace, built in the Renaissance and Baroque eras. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the building was enriched with, among others, a tower and terraces. The changes were initiated by the owner of the time, count Frederick von Hochberg Fürstenstein. Inspired by Japanese art, he introduced elements of oriental art to the architecture and decor of the palace. Similarly to Frederick von Promnitz, count von Hochberg Fürstenstein was also a great lover of dogs – he built a racing track and a cemetery with epitaphs for them. Today, the building houses the Secondary School Complex.
The park is not only a charming place for recreation and relaxation. The romantic scenery is an excellent background for photo sessions. In the older part there are English and French gardens.
