Lubusz Military Museum

Lubusz Military Museum in Zielona Góra seated in Drzonowo is the only museum in Lubusz with a historical-military profile. The museum collects and provides visitors with museum exhibits related to the military from the Middle Ages to the present day. The Museum was established as an independent institution in 1985. The museum pride is its outdoor collection of heavy military equipment and aircraft (about 150 exhibits – it is the second such valuable collection of museum military equipment in Poland after the Museum of the Polish Army in Warsaw), exhibited in a historic park (the only such situation in Poland). In addition, there are many unique exhibits, such as a unique machine gun "Błyskawica" in the museum seat – a historic classicist manor house from the beginning of the 19th century. The museum offers a comprehensive service in the form of visiting the permanent outdoor exhibition and the pavilion (the most valuable exhibits related to the Second World War are gathered in the pavilion). The museum organizes many very popular outdoor events: Military Picnic on the occasion of the Polish Army Day, Bicycle Rally of Independence connected with the celebration of Independence Day, Night of Museums, May Day at the Museum, which gather several thousand guests. For several years we have been trying to "enliven" the exhibition by launching our exhibits. So far, we have launched: T-72 tank, rocket launcher and radar station KRUG, armored personnel carrier BTR 152, UAZ-469B car, motorcycle K-750, which make our events more attractive.
The Museum plans to modernize another part of the permanent exhibition into a more modern and interactive one. We also want to continue running the military vehicles on the open-air exhibition. The Museum has a building permit for the second stage of renovation of the historic building (in the first stage the door and window woodwork was replaced and the roof covering was changed). The second stage involves renovation of the building’s facade and restoration of its original colours. The Museum is also planning to replace the central heating system with a renewable energy source (heat pump). This year, thanks to funding from the Local Action Group Between the Odra and the Bóbr, we will equip the small infrastructure around the museum (benches, deck chairs, exhibition tent, platform for visiting the aircraft). We would also like to roof the most valuable outdoor exhibits to protect them from weather conditions. In the future we would like to develop the museum pond in order to enable our youngest visitors to enjoy the additional attraction of steering miniature ship models.
The Museum has collected a considerable amount of exhibits related to the military history, which since last year are exposed on the modernized exhibition "Polish Soldier 1914-1945" showing the actions of the Polish soldier in a more attractive and multimedia way. There are special offers for groups which can spend several hours getting to know our history in an attractive way (possibility to enter a tank plane, helicopter, rocket launcher, take a ride in an armoured personnel carrier). We also offer a camping site with the possibility of lighting a bonfire and camping under the roof. Children can enjoy the open-air fortification museum. Several times a year we organize picnics with reconstructions of historical events, tank transporter rides, and replicas of the Second World War vehicles. On November 11 we organize an Independence Bicycle Rally from Zielona Góra to Drzonowo combined with a celebration of this holiday in the Museum. The Museum is open during the tourist peak, six days a week, on two days also in the afternoon hours.
By creating special offers aimed at specific groups of visitors we have opened ourselves up to numerous organized groups who are very eager to spend their free time in our museum in an interesting way. In the museum there is a possibility to organize a "birthday party" or an integration meeting every weekday till late evening hours. Organized for several years outdoor events have become part of the calendar of cultural events in Lubusz region and in the Night of Museums, Polish Army Day on August 15, Independence Day on November 11 attract guests from all over the province. In the museum there is also a possibility to rent launched vehicles for events or for films which are being shot.

The Lubusz Military Museum is one of the elements of Lubusz Military and Fortifications Route entered as an image product in the Lubusz Tourism Development Program to 2020. We are one of the main organizers of cyclic military events according to the guides issued by the Marshal’s Office. Thanks to the museum’s adaptation for people with disabilities we were also included in the guide "Lubusz Tourism without barriers" published by the Lubusz Tourist Organization. in 2017, the museum is a founding member of the "Historical Tourism Cluster.”
This new Polish-German cluster on historical tourism in the Polish-Brandenburg border area is being created within the project "EuRegioNet – Internationalization of Networks and Clusters,” which is implemented by: Association of Municipalities of the Republic of Poland Euroregion "Spree – Neisse – Bober" along with the Lubusz Employers’ Organization in Gorzów Wielkopolski, the Business and Innovation Centre in Frankfurt by the Odra River and the Innovation and Technology Centre in Forst.
